Temporary Order

At Monte Azul Center for the Arts in Costa Rica, Langlands exhibits glitched rocks gathered from the surrounding landscape, painted and arranged on a grid floor to create a sculptural composition of temporary order, alongside concept drawings and an activation in which she situates herself within the grid and invites others to do the same. At the conclusion, Temporary Order is deinstalled and glitched remains are piled onto a natural rock at Monte Azul.

“I work with heavy objects—painting them, arranging them, and assigning them meaning. I struggle with authority, and heavy objects hold a certain degree of authority. As an artist and a woman who exists, I quite like arranging them my way; a kind of transformation happens. Transformation is a central topic in all of my works.”
